My journey to here...
I have always loved to paint and create. I started oil painting in high school as part of an amazing art program run by Walt Bartman. Many of my classmates are professional painters, including Maura Matthews, Amanda Stenlund, and Gavin Glakas.
I continued painting through college, and while living in France, I studied painting, drawing, and ceramics at Parsons School of Design, Paris. Having the opportunity to live in Tokyo, Japan broadened my art world further, and I studied Sumi-e calligraphy and paper art.
My paintings are in private collections around the world, including Paris, Toronto, Washington D.C. and New York.
My other interest is teaching, both children and adults. I love how free and confident children are in their art making, and I try to bring that same freedom and confidence back to my adult students.
I graduated from RISD with a certificate in Children's Book Illustration in 2013.
I was a member of the Society of Children's book writers and illustrators from 2012-2022.
I am an exhibiting artist member at the Providence Art Club, the Rhode Island Watercolor Society and Art League Rhode Island. I am thrilled to be exploring my fine arts roots again. www.providenceartclub.org/user/annewert/
